A friend recently told me about this little known offer. By joining the Museums Association you get free access to virtually all the Museums in the country, and free entry to most special exhibitions as well (e.g. at Tate Modern, Tate Britain, British Museum etc). You don’t get access to the Members facilities at the individual museums though.
When you first land on the Museums Association site, it looks as if membership is restricted to professionals who work in museums, but that’s not the case. If you click through to buy, choose the ‘Friend, trustee, paid non-professional’ option.
Membership starts at £49, it’s a fantastic deal – after dropping some heavy hints I received one for Christmas. Go to the Museums Association site to find out more.
The Museums Association no longer accept applications from those not working or volunteering in the sector – a great shame. Luckily, those of us who already have one will be allowed to renew.
